Colour takes the stakes

COLOUR was the flavour of the day in the fashion stakes at the TAB Cranbourne Cup on Sunday.
More than 50 fashionable fillies, as well as men, dressed in the season’s hottest racing trends for the Myer Fashions on the Field event.
This year saw a lot of colour from the competitors, with pastel shades proving more popular then bright, pop colours.
There were two categories in the competition – Myer Lady of the Day and Myer Man of the Day – judged by Myer ambassador Laura Dundovic, winner of Country Racing’s best dressed race-goer in season 2011-’12 Alex Hecker and Country Racing Victoria’s South East region fashion blogger Elizabeth Bacchetti.
The event was hosted by fellow Myer Ambassador, Lauren Phillips.
The winner of the Myer Lady of the Day was Brigette Cox, from Bendigo, whose outfit was described by the judges as having a lot of detail and very unique.
Ms Cox’s outfit was put together piece by piece after she found her dress. She even spray-painted her hat to match the outfit after she found it in an op shop.
Ms Cox travelled to Cranbourne for the event, after her husband competed in the men’s completion at Caulfield Guineas Day the day before.
“I’m ecstatic to win,” she said.
“I’m just so excited, I never expected it.”
Aimme Larocca, from Dingley, was named the runner-up and third place went to Lauren Ellery from Seaford.
18-year-old Ryan Griffiths, from Devon Meadows was named the winner of the Myer Man of the Day and Graham Walter, from Mount Evelyn, awarded runner-up.
Mr Griffiths was wearing a light grey suit, teamed with a purple shirt and matching accessories.
“I’ve always been into fashion, so I thought this would be a good way to use that and hopefully win some prizes,” Mr Griffiths said.
“I put my look together at the last minute.
“I decided to team my suit with the purple as it had a good summery feel.”
Judge Ms Dundovic said she was thrilled with the fashions on show at Cranbourne and was glad to be back to judge the competition for the third year in a row.
“The fashions are amazing,” she said.
“Everyone’s really on trend.
“There was a lot of deliberation for us to decide on the winners.”
Winners shared in $5,000 in Myer shopping sprees across the two racewear categories.
