ALMOST 10,000 people turned about for a weekend of racing, fashion and entertainment at the TAB Cranbourne Cup Carnival.
The carnival kicked off Friday night with a race meeting held under lights, with the big event following on Sunday with the TAB Cranbourne Cup Day.
About 7500 people were at Sunday’s event, which saw the trainer Mark Kavanagh take out the $200,000 feature race with Midnight Martini.
The fashion stakes were also high trackside, with a huge number of men and women competing in the Myer Fashions on the Field.
Cranbourne Turf Club chief executive Neil Bainbridge said from a racing point of view, it was an outstanding day.
“We had great weather, huge crowds and big fields of horses in each race,” he said.
“We were really delighted with not only Sunday, but the whole Cranbourne Cup Carnival with the Friday night meeting included for the first time.
“The feedback from people has been really positive and it was a great way to kick off the first two-day carnival at the club.
“As the two-day carnival continues to grow in the years to come, we are expecting even more and more people to get involved.”
