Frontline focus on family violence

MORE police will soon be on the beat across Casey to help track down on crime.
It was announced this week that additional 26 frontline police will be deployed to the Casey, Greater Dandenong and over the next financial year.
Casey Inspector Wayne Viney welcomed the announcement.
With the continued growth in population in Casey, Greater Dandenong and Cardinia the demand on policing services is far greater,” he said.
“Any additional police is well received.
Insp Viney said Casey police would directly receive one sergeant and six constables over the next financial year, who would be distributed across Narre Warren, Cranbourne and Endeavour Hills stations.
“Additional staff will allow us to continue our focus on our safe suburbs taskforce, which purely focuses on antisocial behaviour. It will allow us to increase the strength of that,” he said.
Insp Viney said it would also allow police to focus on family violence – with Casey having the highest number of domestic violence figures in the state.
He said that they would be able to redirect other police into the family violence unit when the new frontline officers commence.
“It will give us greater coverage and help us in our attempts to reduce family violence,” he said.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich said the deployment would be welcomed by the local community and delivers on the election commitment by the Victorian Coalition Government to deliver 1700 additional frontline police before November 2014.
“The additional police will provide an enormous benefit for community safety and will provide Police Command with greater flexibility to deploy resources to areas of need,” she said.
Gembrook MP Brad Battin said the Coalition was committed to improving law and order in Victoria.
“Everyone wants to live in a safe community,” he said.
“Having more police on the frontline will ensure a greater police presence across Casey, Dandenong and Cardinia.”
