The power to move

A MOVING performance on the tragic events of September 11 saw Lyndhurst Secondary College dance its way to third spot in the 2012 Rock Eisteddfod Challenge (REC).
Students took part in the REC RAW division in Melbourne on Thursday 9 August and were awarded third place for their performance.
The school was also awarded with The Edge Award of Excellence for Choreography, Award of Excellence for Concept, Award of Excellence for Drama, Award of Excellence for Costuming Character and Award of Excellence for Visual Enhancement at the event.
Co-ordinator Catherine Blackburn said she was stoked to came in third and win other awards.
“We came fourth last year and the students were a bit devastated,” she said,
“But they were absolutely over the moon to come third and top that.
“I couldn’t believe how well we had done.
“I’m actually speechless at how proud I am of all of them.”
Ms Blackburn said they had 32 students of all ages in their act and had been rehearsing since February.
“Our story was titled ‘Spirit of the City’, and was a tribute to the terrorist attacks on September 11,” she said.
“We had two different groups, one of hip-hop dancers who were business people and contemporary dancers who became the spirits of those who died.”
