Road safety upgrade

A DANGEROUS intersection is Cranbourne will receive a road safety upgrade after funding was announced last week.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich announced last week that the State Government would provide $266,000 towards the upgrade of the South Gippsland Highway and Camms Road, Cranbourne, intersection.
In the most recent five-year period to 31 December 2010, there were three casualty crashes at this intersection.
Ms Peulich said the works would be funded through the Safer Roads Infrastructure Program, which targets roads identified as needing safety improvements.
“There have been instances at this location where left-turning vehicles have collided with pedestrians and cyclists,” she said.
“The relocation of the pedestrian crossing to end at the left turn slip island is designed to reduce the likelihood of those collisions happening.”
The funding is provided by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) through the SaferRoads Infrastructure Program and is part of a 10-year commitment of $650 million.
