STUDENTS at Tooradin Primary School planted the seeds for a better environment and friendships on National Tree Day last week.
National Tree Day provides all Australians with an opportunity to do something positive for the environment and reconnect with nature.
The school took part in the event by planting 127 indigenous native shrubs as understory foliage to promote increased bird and animal habitat and a natural wind break.
Teacher Rachel Davis said the children worked together with their buddy grades to encourage both the growth of co-operation as well as trees.
“They were reminded of Tooradin Primary School’s commitment to environmental education and the responsibility each student and teacher has to creating a sustainable future,” she said.
“Students went on to protect their trees with tree guards and named their shrubs with a view to taking pride in the watching them grow over the years.”
Ms Davis said she would like to thank Kooweerup Trees and Shrubs nursery and the Department of Sustainability for providing the native shrubs for the occasion.
