STUDENTS from eight Casey schools are preparing to take the stage in a musical extravaganza, to be hosted by former Home and Away star Tim Campbell.
Casey’s annual Schools on Stage will be held Thursday 13 September, when students get the opportunity to showcase two songs from their current school musical.
Performances will be judged by a panel, to be headed by deputy mayor Wayne Smith, with a major prize of $2000 up for grabs.
City of Casey Mayor Sam Aziz said it will be an exciting event where students get to showcase their talent.
“The audience is set for a great night of entertainment as the diversity of shows sees much-loved show tunes, some major hits from the 1980s and original songs all bought to life on stage by a new generation of talent,” he said.
Alkira Secondary College will be performing from Back To The ’80s, Beaconhills College performing from The Wiz, Cranbourne East Secondary College performing from Beauty and the Beast Junior and Cranbourne Secondary College performing from Thoroughly Modern Millie Junior.
Songs from How The West Was Warped will be showcased by Fountain Gate Secondary College, Wizard of Oz by Hillcrest Christian College, original show Kisses from Kooweerup Secondary College and Seussical from St John’s Regional College.
All-round entertainer Mr Campbell has been confirmed to host the event.
Although best known for his role as Dan Baker in Home and Away, Mr Campbell has also entertained audiences as host of national television programs and on stage in productions including Wicked, Rent and Shout! The Legend of the Wild One.
In 2011, more than 180 students performed at the event, with Casey Grammar School’s performance from The Wizard of Oz declared the winner.
The event will be held on Thursday 13 September from 7.30pm at the Hillcrest Theatre, 500 Soldiers Road Clyde North.
Tickets will be available from Monday 6 August, and can be purchased online from www.trybooking.com/BNJZ.
