COMMUNITIES in Casey who take pride in the area they live in are being encouraged to submit entries to the Keep Australia Beautiful Victorian awards.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich has urged all communities who have entered previously and those who might be considering participating for the first time to get their entries in.
“For 30 years these awards have been encouraging Victorian communities to look after their local environment and be proud of the community they live in,” she said.
“The Sustainable Cities Awards recognise and celebrate positive actions taken by communities in urban areas to protect and enhance their local environments.”
Climate Change and Environment Minister Ryan Smith said it was awards such as these which acted as a great way to recognise Victorians who took practical action to improve their environment.
“If you think your community may be one of the tidiest in Victoria, I encourage you to submit a nomination,” he said.
There are 11 awards to compete for, one of which is the Victorian Sustainable City of the Year Award.
Entries are open to all applicants, including councils, community and service groups, local youth and school groups and even individuals.
Entries for the Sustainable Cities Award close on 11 April. For further information on the awards visit www.sustainability.vic.gov.au/kabv.
