HAMPTON Park Secondary College has introduced 21st century learning into its classrooms.
The ‘one-to-one notebook program’ has been implemented at the school this year, which gives students access to their own laptop 24 hours, seven days a week.
As part of the Victorian Government Netbook Project, all students from Year 9 to 12 have been given a laptop to use during the day for their studies and to take home.
The school, through parent contributions, has funded the program itself for Year 7 students as well.
Hampton Park Secondary College assistant principal Anne Ure said the college had implemented infrastructure to allow students to have access to the school virtual desktop.
“The one-to-one notebook program was introduced to ensure the students have the skills and knowledge necessary for 21st century learning,” she said,
“Generally, teenagers are very connected to mobile devices such as smart phones and we are connecting the digital world and student school experience to improve literacy and numeracy.
“Students have the devices in class and at home and the buzz around the school is one of excitement.”
Ms Ure said teachers would also receive training on the technology to assist students.
“During the year, staff will continue to participate in professional learning to build on their knowledge and skills in using digital devices in the classroom,” she said.
