Convicted for dog attack

THE City of Casey successfully prosecuted a resident in relation to offences after their unruly dog attacked a guide dog last year.
The resident was convicted and fined $1000 and $1305 in costs in the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court for the attack which occurred in Cranbourne in December. The defendant pleaded guilty to allowing a dog to be at large, failing to register a dog and allowing a dog to attack.
City of Casey Mayor Sam Aziz said the council placed a high importance on promoting responsible pet ownership within the community and enforcing any matters which pose a threat to the safety of residents or their animals.
“It is important that all pet owners act responsibly and play their part in ensuring that their pets are secured so they’re not causing a nuisance in the community,” he said. “Most dog attacks that happen are the result of poor fencing or open gates, and often occur close to the dog’s home.
“It is the dog owner’s responsibility to ensure that a dog is confined to the owner’s property at all times.”
Cr Aziz said the council would not hesitate to investigate dog attack incidents.
