MEMBERS of the Hampton Park Seniors Club had two things to be happy about when they celebrated the club’s 30th anniversary and Christmas last Thursday.
Nearly 70 seniors gathered for the occasion, and shared a catered lunch with spit roast and a birthday cake.
Santa Claus and his elf made an appearance, and the club’s choir sang Christmas carols.
President of the club Kathy March said everyone had a splendid time.
The club was first started on 8 December 1981 in an inaugural meeting.
“Councillor Wren was there, and there were 19 people at the meeting where the Hampton Park Seniors Club was formed,” she said.
“One of the original members, Wally Johnson, is still a member of the club and was there that day. He had a lovely time.”
The club offers many activities for its members, including tai chi, indoor bowls, line dancing, a exercise group, a computer group and an internet kiosk, where seniors can learn to use the computers.
“The club’s gone from strength to strength,” Ms March said.
“It’s wonderful because you can make a lot of friends, you don’t have to stay at home and be lonely.
The hardest thing is walking in but once you’re in you’re made very welcome and make lots of friends.”
