Grade 6 student Taine and Grade 5 student Daniel from Tooradin Primary School raced in the HPV competition.Grade 6 student Taine and Grade 5 student Daniel from Tooradin Primary School raced in the HPV competition.

TOORADIN Primary School students were out in full-force for the RACV Energy Breakthrough Challenge in Maryborough last month.
The Grade 4 team competed in the Pushcart competition on their billycart style vehicles.
Teacher Rachel McInnes said it was a privilege to spend the weekend watching the students step outside their comfort zones and strive to achieve their best.
“It was a weekend of new experiences, for many it was their first time camping and being away from home.
“The students demonstrated exceptional perseverance and teamwork skills and even the rain couldn’t dampen their enthusiasm,” Ms McInnes said.
The school also had two teams in the Human Powered Vehicle event, a team of Grade 5 students called the Flaming Mozzies and a team of Grade 6 students dubbed the Red Rocket.
Both teams participated in the triathlon event for the first time this year, which involved an obstacle course, a time trial and a seven- hour endurance race.
Teacher Rachel Davis said the students were very excited by the challenging events and the friendly competition among schools.
“Both our pushcart and HPV programs promote team work, sustainable practices and healthy life choices and each finished the weekend with a broad smile and wonderful sense of achievement despite the weather,” she said.
