WILLOW Wood Aged Care in Cranbourne was decorated in white and purple to mark the 100th birthday of resident Jean McMahon recently.
About 35 of her closest friends and family and 50 residents from the centre were present to celebrate her milestone and share a piece of her birthday cake, which matched the colour theme.
Sue Rose, who co-ordinated the function on behalf of Mrs McMahon, said it was great Mrs McMahon’s birthday was close to Christmas. “The place was prematurely decorated for Christmas, so we could also incorporate it with Jean’s birthday.”
Mrs McMahon’s son Bill said the day was a wonderful success, and will remain in the hearts of her family, friends and fellow residents.
“She was very aware of what was going on and smiled throughout; she had a lot of presents and cards and she was very overwhelmed,” he said.
“The staff at Willow Wood talk to her everyday about it and she continues to smile about it.”
Mrs McMahon is the oldest of four, with one sister and two brothers.
She married her husband Bill in 1938 and lived in Frankston for 57 years, enjoying caravanning holidays, travelling around Australia as well as square dancing.
After her husband passed away in 1998, she moved to Somerville before residing at Willow Wood Aged Care.
She is the proud grandmother of five and great-grandmother of nine great-grandchildren.
