Hot spot for idiots

THE Casey Police Service Area is has recorded one of the highest numbers of drink driving offences in Victoria during the first 18 days of a statewide operation.
Operation RAID (Remove All Impaired Drivers) is a statewide operation which has a focus on alcohol and drug-affected drivers which will run until Sunday 11 December.
Since Friday 25 November, Casey police have conducted 8063 breath tests and detected 23 drink drivers – the eighth highest number detected in the state. The operation is the first of three operations to be run throughout the Summer Stay road enforcement campaign over the festive season.
Police across the state have breath-tested almost 400,000 motorists so far during Operation RAID and caught more than 1000 drink drivers.
Road Policing Superintendent Neville Taylor said he was concerned about the number of women detected drink driving over the weekend and the high level of readings.
He said on Friday evening, a booze bus operation on Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road, Cranbourne detected a 44-year-old Hampton Park woman with a BAC of .122.
Supt Taylor said the woman told police that she had consumed two glasses of wine, but they were tall glasses.
“Drink driving remains one of the biggest killers on Victorian roads,” he said.
“With Christmas parties and end of year celebrations, this is absolutely one of the most high-risk periods on our roads.
“Really, these drivers are lucky that we caught them before someone got hurt.
“My message is this, if you are going out and plan to drive – don’t drink. If you are planning to drink – then don’t drive.
“This is always the safest way for you, your passengers and all road users.”
The Summer Stay road enforcement campaign will run through to 8 January, with Operation Aegis XI and Operation Crossroads to be held following the completion of Operation RAID.
