LYNDHURST Secondary College had a celebratory lunch last week to congratulate the efforts of those in a reading challenge.
This year almost 100 students took part in the school’s annual Premier’s Reading Challenge, with 49 students completing it.
The challenge requires students to read 15 books, which are then verified by the coordinating teachers, from February to mid September.
During that time the 95 Lyndhurst students read 1243 books. The winner of the challenge was Angie Tuffnell, who read a total of 52 books and Jasmine Sadler with 46 books.
On Monday 21 November, the school held a lunch to celebrate the achievements of the successful 49 students.
At this lunch, hosted by the library, students were presented with their certificates, awarded badges and won prizes, which were books of course.
Teacher librarian Melinda FitzGerald said the challenge was always a great success.
“Lyndhurst students have been taking on the Premier’s Reading Challenge for the last four years,” she said.
“Over the years the numbers entering and completing the challenge have grown and we have also seen our general reading numbers increase as a consequence of this excellent program.”
