Ambassador to Asia

The Cranbourne North school has been chosen to take part in the Asian Literacy Ambassadors – Partnering Businesses and Schools project.
The project establishes and supports partnerships between businesses and schools to stimulate student and school community demand for Asia literacy.
Skilled professionals are matched to secondary schools across Australia to assist school communities to better understand the diverse career and life opportunities available to employees who are knowledgeable about Asia, who speak an Asian language and can effectively engage with the people and cultures of Asia, off-shore and domestically.
Richard Exton, who is the head of technology for ANZ’s online share broker E*TRADE Australia, has been partnered with the school for the program.
Alkira principal Ian McKenzie welcomed Mr Exton to the school last week, where he addressed the students.
“He spoke of the richness of the Chinese culture and the connections we in Australia have with the people and economies of Asia, who will be major players in the next few years,” he said.
Mr McKenzie said the imperative for Australian students to become Asia literate had never been greater.
“Employment and lifestyle opportunities for Australians are increasingly influenced by the economies and societies of the Asian region, while immigrants from Asia play an active role in communities across Australia,” he said.
“Students leaving school with knowledge and understanding about Asia, and strong inter-cultural skills will be best placed to maximise these opportunities.”
