POLICE have charged a Narre Warren South man with impersonating an Australian Special Air Service (SAS) officer.
Police said the 35-year-old man attended the Narre Warren Police Station to be pre-sent for an interview for his son on 12 October dressed in an Australian SAS uniform including badges and a Sam Browne belt.
Police said the man stated he was a serving member of the SAS and was currently on leave from Western Australia.
Police made further inquiries and found out the man had never served with the SAS.
A search warrant was executed at the man’s home on 2 November, where police recovered several sets of uniforms and other attire including service ribbons and medals.
Police charged the man with impersonating a Commonwealth official, unauthorized use of defence emblems, improper use of defence service decorations and impersonating a returned soldier.
