LOW-income earning Casey residents may be eligible for an annual electricity bill discount.
The State Government delivered on its commitment last week, with the annual electricity concession coming into effect on Tuesday.
The concession replaces the winter energy concession for electricity so that eligible Casey families can now access a 17.5 per cent rebate on their electricity bills all year round.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich said the $381.6 million initiative fulfilled an election commitment to the Casey community and ensured concession card holders received a discount on their electricity bill all year.
“Previously the concession stopped on 31 October, which meant that concession card holders and Casey’s seniors received no support, including during the hot summer months of December, January and February,” Ms Peulich said.
“The Baillieu Government has considered it very important to support Casey families that may be doing it tough at the moment, with some relief on their electricity bills.”
Under the annual electricity concession, low-income households will see a year-round saving of 17.5 per cent on their electricity bills.
Holders of a Centrelink pensioner concession card, Centrelink healthcare card or Department of Veterans Affairs gold card may be eligible.
Recipients of the Winter Energy Concession will automatically receive the annual electricity concession.
People who believe they may be eligible for the annual electricity concession should call the Concessions Information Line on 1800 658 521.
