CRANBOURNE Information and Support Services (CISS) is seeking more volunteers to help the area’s most vulnerable residents.
To assist those wanting to get involved, CISS will host a six-day course which is required by anyone working in the centre as determined by Community Information Victoria. The Assess and Provide Services for Clients with Complex Needs course will begin on 11 November and finish on 9 December.
CISS offers a range of support services to the City of Casey’s most at-risk residents including crisis support, counselling, a share accommodation register and tax help.
Staff also offer information and referrals on subjects including accommodation, community affairs, education, emergency relief, employment, financial hardship and employment.
CISS co-ordinator of volunteers Maria Belfrage encouraged people to think about volunteering with the centre.
“Are you a helpful, non-judgmental, fun-loving person who’d like to feel more connected to your community and make a useful contribution to it?” she said.
“Would you thrive in a supportive environment that values your input and encourages you to help solve problems?
“If this is you, we’d thought you’d like to know about the many and varied ways in which you can use your existing skills and abilities to help others in the community who may be experiencing difficulties or who may be less fortunate than yourself.”
Ms Belfrage said CISS was seeking expressions of interest from adults who would like to become involved.
“We can offer you interesting work involving a range of worthwhile tasks,” she said. “You’ll undertake classroom and on-the-job training and have your own mentor to advise and assist you and help you build on your existing skills as well as develop new ones. You’ll become part of a close-knit team whose members pitch in and help each other, enjoy social occasions together and take pride in doing a good job.”
