High fashion at stake

THE fashion stakes were high on Sunday at the TAB Sportsbet Cranbourne Cup and two fashionable people came out on top.
Nicole Walter, 20, from Mount Evelyn won the Myer Lady of the Day and Michael McAlpine, from Richmond, won the Myer Man of the Day in the Fashions on the Field competition.
Wearing the season’s most on-trend style – colour clashing – Ms Walter mixed a bright orange coat with a more demure navy to pull off the look.
Ms Walter said she started with her jacket and then brought the rest of her outfit to work with it, including getting her hat made by M and M Millinery.
She said she was thrilled to take out the competition.
“I’m so excited, I’ve never won a sash,” she said. “This has made it such a lovely day.”
Ms Walter said she had entered a few Fashions on the Field competitions before, but this was her first win.
As a result, Ms Walter received a $2500 Myer gift card.
The runner-up in the women’s category was Bianca Barnes, who won a $1000 Myer gift card, and Blanche Milford was awarded third place, winning a $500 Myer gift card.
Mr McAlpine, who won a $750 Myer gift card as the winner of the men’s section, teamed his suit with a range of lavender coloured accessories and shirt.
Mr McAlpine, a seasoned Fashion on the Field competitor, said it was his second time winning a fashions event.
“It’s the same as women; it takes months and months to put the outfit together,” he said.
“I’m very pleased I got a win. I just do it for the fun; a win is just a bonus.”
Runner-up in the category was Steven Bilotta, from Box Hill, who won a $250 Myer gift card.
