CASEY Council is encouraging local residents to step up the amount of walking they do this month.
The council is urging people to take part in Walktober – a friendly, light-hearted challenge to encourage people across Australia to increase their daily activity.
The initiative encourages people to walk for 15 minutes or more each day at a time and place that suits them.
City of Casey Mayor Shar Balmes said there were so many benefits to leading a healthy lifestyle and walking was an easy activity that could be done either individually or in a group at no cost.
“Some ideas to increase the level of walking are to take a relaxing stroll around the neighbourhood, walk with colleagues during lunchtime, take the dog for a walk or enjoy a nature walk with the family in one of council’s parks or reserves,” she said.
Cr Balmes also encourages local residents to join a local Heart Foundation Walking Group. Heart Foundation Walking is Australia’s largest network of community-based walking groups, with a number of groups operating throughout the City of Casey.
For details on becoming a Heart Foundation walk organiser or joining a walking group in your area, contact City of Casey Customer Service on 9705 5200 or visit www.walktober.com.au.
