Get ya clawz out

By Bridget Cook
THE claws came out this month when students from schools across the region battled it out in an inter-school hip-hip dance competition.
Dance crews from seven schools took part in the Clawz Out competition held at Cranbourne Secondary College on Monday 12 September.
Event organiser, Cranbourne Secondary College dance teacher Dani Bremner said the competition offered students a chance to compete in a fun and friendly environment.
“Each crew received a feedback sheet from the judges which will assist them with developing their crew and routines in the future,” she said.
Students from schools including three crews from Cranbourne Secondary College, Brunswick Secondary College, Dandenong High School and Lyndale Secondary College competed in three sections, junior, senior and freestyle.
The junior section was won by ‘Pretty Young Things’ from Cranbourne Secondary College and the senior category was won by ’91st Street’ from Sandringham.
Cranbourne Secondary College Year 11 student Mike Fepuleai was judged the winner of the freestyle competition.
There was also the Judge’s Choice award which went to the judge’s favourite dancer – Cranbourne Secondary Coll-ege Year 10 student Katherine Begeo.
Clawz Out was established in 2010 by Meghan Lee and Cranbourne Secondary College VET dance students as a part of their Certificate II in Dance, which was a huge success.
This year it has been carried on by Ms Bremner and two Year 12 students, Diana Tutonu and Roger Masofa.
“It was established due to the strong dance community here at Cranbourne Secondary College,” Ms Bremner said.
“The college is looking to get more funding and expand the competition next year.”
