Services’ eye on youths

CASEY council offers a variety of free counselling and support services to cater for the city’s 60,000 young people aged between 12 and 25 years.
Through the council’s Youth Support Program, services are available for teenagers and parents who may require some additional support and guidance, or alternatively the staff can refer you to the appropriate agency or service.
Some of the issues young people have spoken to Youth Support Program staff about include family and relationship difficulties, stress, anger management, communication, not fitting in at school, loneliness and isolation.
With one of the highest youth populations in Victoria, Casey mayor Shar Balmes said it was important that the council provided services to meet their needs.
Cr Balmes said between the ages of 12 and 25 years people generally experienced a number of developmental stages where different needs and issues arise that may require additional support.
“It is the council’s priority, through our Youth Support Program, to help young people and their families through any difficulties that may arise and to assist them to reach their full potential,” she said.
The Youth Support Program offers short-term generalist counselling and parents are welcome to call and speak to a youth support worker.
