GPRun for the children

ALL funds raised from this year’s MRA Cranbourne GP Run will go towards lifting the spirits of seriously ill children.
The Starlight Children’s Foundation has been announced as the charity partner for this year’s event.
City of Casey Mayor Shar Balmes said the pain, loneliness and isolation that sick children felt could dominate their lives, and they often missed out on normal experiences that healthy children took for granted.
“Living with illness or injury can cause enormous strain in the lives of children and their families,” she said.
“The Starlight Children’s Foundation works very hard to implement programs which lift the spirits of very sick children. This sense of family and fun is also what the MRA Cranbourne GP Run is all about.”
Dual Olympic Gold Medallist Kieren Perkins, who will wave-off the MRA Cranbourne GP Run on Saturday 15 October, is a current board member of the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Starlight Children’s Foundation National Partnerships manager Fiona Rhody-Nicoll thanked the City of Casey for helping to brighten the lives of seriously ill children.
“I am delighted that the 2011 MRA Cranbourne GP Run is supporting the Starlight Children’s Foundation,” she said.
“Starlight programs are integral to the total care of seriously ill children – while the health professionals focus on treating the illness, Starlight is there to lift the spirits of the child – giving them the opportunity to laugh and play and be a child again.”
At the event, the Starlight Children’s Foundation will staff a marquee in Childers Street to promote and fundraise for its programs. This location is close to the wave off point and the main stage. Members of the community will be able to contribute a gold coin donation at the free rides and activities at the event which will be passed on to the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
A representative from the foundation will also address the crowd on its projects from the main stage.
