THE City of Casey will look at a more permanent way to recognise those in the community who have made an “outstanding” contribution to the city and beyond.
Council officers are set to investigate the construction of a Wall of Honour at a suitable location in Casey, which would include a plaque for those in the community who make an outstanding effort.
Councillor Amanda Stapledon, who put forward the idea at Tuesday night’s council meeting, said the Wall of Honour would be a permanent commemoration that would be accessible and visible to all Casey residents and visitors.
“The wall would be to recognise the contributions of an individual that is of great significance, in a way that is permanent and something for our future generations to have access to,” she said.
“The Wall of Honour would be a symbolic pinnacle and a timeless acknowledgement to those who have helped shape our city in a significant way and each plaque would provide a piece of history for our children and future generations to come.”
Cr Stapledon said she envisioned that the wall would pay tribute to a range of different people.
“Those recognised might include past and present residents or could even include others who do not necessarily live within our city but have made a significant contribution to Casey,” she said.
A report with the outcomes of the investigation complete with costings will go to council.
