STAFF members from Connections UnitingCare Cranbourne are putting in the legwork to help raise funds and awareness for disadvantaged children.
Four staff members from the Cranbourne organisation have signed up to run the 10-kilometre course at this year’s Melbourne Marathon.
The staff, Stephen Connor, Catherine Beverley, Janine Bird and Kathleen Carns, will be joined by two members of Connections’ leadership team who are running the massive half marathon at the October 9 event.
Connections is a community organisation which support marginalised and disadvantaged children, young people and families.
The community organisation has offices across Melbourne’s south eastern suburbs and throughout the eastern region. In addition the organisation has early childhood services providing programs and support throughout both regions.
Connections community services general manager Trish Chapman, who is running the half marathon, said the group looked forward to the event.
“We all love running and believe in the community building work of Connections – so this effectively brings the two together,” she said.
“Our programs and services work tirelessly for some of Melbourne’s most disadvantaged and marginalised members of the community.
“As well as working with Connections, this is our opportunity to show other people the need in the community and provide them with an opportunity to support this work.”
Connections community relations manager, Matt Clear, who is also doing the half marathon, said they were all putting their bodies on the line in the hope that other members of the community would join in, sponsor them or run themselves.
“We would encourage anyone to set up their own fund-raising page and Run for Connections,” he said.
“We have launched a new fund-raising portal that makes it easy.”
Mr Clear said all people had to do was visit www.connections. org.au or call 1800 137 036 to find out the details.
