The council recently adopted the Cranbourne Town Centre Plan, Cranbourne Town Centre Urban Design Framework (UDF) and Casey Complex Structure Plan which provide a robust strategic framework for the future development of Cranbourne’s town centre.
The Cranbourne town centre has been identified as one of two Principal Activity Centres (PAC) within the City of Casey. The other is the Narre Warren/Fountain Gate central business district.
Council officers will now prepare an implementation plan which will outline major actions, strategic projects and funding opportunities to make the plans a reality.
The implementation plan would be based around key initiatives in the Cranbourne Town Centre Plan including continued advocacy for the Cranbourne Bypass, development of a cinema and second discount department store in the town centre and streetscape improvements along High Street.
The plans picture a thriving cafe lifestyle along High Street, with increases to footpath widths, active frontages and improved streetscape.
High density housing is also a major part of the plans, with mixed-used developments envisioned – which include retail, office and residential space on different levels.
Casey mayor Shar Balmes said while the plans were three different documents, they worked together to reinforce the role and importance of the Cranbourne town centre.
Cr Balmes said the three documents created significant interest in the local community when they were released for public consultation.
“The council received a number of submissions and large crowds attended the public information sessions,” she said.
“I thank everyone who provided the council with their feedback which was considered before the final documents were endorsed by the council.
“These three documents will have a major impact on how Cranbourne grows and develops in the future and I am confident that they meet the community’s needs and wishes.
“The sound planning processes that we have put in place now will help Cranbourne to develop into one of the most attractive, active and accessible areas of Melbourne.”
Copies of the Cranbourne Town Centre Plan are available from the Casey’s strategic development department on request. Call on 9705 5200.
