WHEN a gingerbread man escaped from the oven at Tooradin Primary School, the Preppies searched far and wide for it.
They built little traps for the runaway biscuit and even stuck up posters, but when it didn’t show, they filed a missing persons report with the Cranbourne police station.
The police sent out search cars, a helicopter and even despatched the water police in search of the elusive gingerbread man.
But it was only when the sniffer dogs were brought in that they found it him and Senior Constable Dave took him back to the school.
Prep teacher Rachel Davis said he was very helpful.
“He explained the many ways in which police officers are able to help in the community,” she said.
“The Preps were very grateful for the co-operation and care given by Cranbourne Police Station and particularly Senior Constable Dave.”
The exercise was part of the school’s community policing project, which aims to get Preps accustomed to the police and their procedures.
Ms Davis said they learnt a lot throughout the three-week period.
“We did a lot of mapping, finding clues and letter writing to other classes – there was a lot of learning extended from that one experience,” she said.
The gingerbread man is now locked up in the classroom office to prevent future escape attempts.
One tasty escapee
