POLICE have arrested and charged a man following a burglary at Pearcedale CFA on Monday last week.
Officers were called to the Baxter-Tooradin Road CFA, after reports of a burglary at the premises while CFA officers were out attending a fatal collision.
When CFA volunteers returned to the headquarters they found that their cars and the building had been broken into with four GPS units, a laptop, two portable, handheld UHF radios and other tools were stolen – about $5000 worth of equipment.
The theft occurred some time between 1.30am and 6am while the firefighters were assisting at a crash in Somerville in which one man died and two injured men were taken to The Alfred hospital.
A 27-year-old Pearcedale man has been charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of theft, two counts of theft from motor vehicle and obtaining property by deception.
He has been bailed to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 27 October.
