CRANBOURNE Secondary College students had a lesson last week about how to lead a healthy lifestyle in a musical way.
The students were treated to a concert by a local pop punk and alternative band Brighter at Night – who has been working with youth organisation Peninsula Headspace.
The band not only entertains through music, but also attempts to try and raise awareness about depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol and other health issues by promoting healthy lifestyles.
In between songs, the band promotes a ‘stress less’ message, as well as throws around some questions and answers about mental health and promotes help-seeking in the school and community.
Peninsula Headspace has provided a workshop for the band on the scope of issues to cover.
The band said the process was beneficial in two ways.
“Firstly by using music as the attraction, having a free band to watch at school during lunchtime ensures that there is a good reach for the healthy-lifestyle message,” they said.
“Secondly, as a band of young people, students can communicate and connect with what we are saying so there is a much greater chance they can relate to us better than older representatives giving a speech from Headspace.”
