HAPPY fifth birthday Casey Fields.
The regional sports complex in Cranbourne East provides the space and opportunity for residents to get active and improve their fitness.
The facility is home to a VFL football ovaland pavilion, four football/cricket ovals, aregional athletics centre, two rugby fields, three netball courts, 12 tennis courts, a 2.2 kilometre cycling/human powered vehicle (HPV) criterium track, playground and village green, three kilometres of walking paths, a golf practice cage, cricket nets and a lake stocked for fishing.
The City of Casey also has a 30-year partnership Melbourne Football Club, where the team trains and can be witnessed at Casey Fields.
City of Casey Mayor Shar Balmes said Casey Fields was a fantastic asset for the Casey community.
“I am extremely pleased that council has displayed so much innovation and dedication in its development,” she said.
“With a range of award-winning and world class facilities on offer, residents are spoilt for choice when they visit Casey Fields; it is truly a venue of which we can all be proud.
“I encourage residents to head along to Casey Fields in celebration of its fifth birthday, to check out the facilities on offer and see how it has flourished over the years.”
Casey Fields is continuing its expansion, with $1 million allocated towards the development of a rugby league pavilion as part of the council’s 2011-12 budget.
The council is also waiting for the outcome of its recent funding submission to the Federal Government’s Regional Development Australia Fund.
If received, the funds would provide a major contribution to the development of the Soccer Centre of Excellence at Casey Fields, completing the major projects identified in the Casey Fields Master Plan.
