Sustainable sports grants

CASEY sports clubs can now apply for grants so they can weather-proof the facilities.
Local clubs can share in $2 million worth of State Government funding, which is now available through the latest round of the Sustainable Sports Ground Program.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich said the grants would provide extra support to help Casey clubs deal with the impact of climate extremes.
“In recent years local clubs have been doing it tough, with facilities battling to cope with climate extremes, including drought and heavy rain,” Ms Peulich said.
“This program provides the cash boost needed for sports clubs to develop long term, sustainable, low water use community sporting facilities that are better equipped to deal with future challenges.
“From water recycling and stormwater harvesting to drought resistant turf and the installation of synthetic playing surfaces for sports such as soccer, hockey, lawn bowls and tennis, the Sustainable Sports Ground Program helps local sport to not only survive, but to thrive.”
Up to $100,000 is available for each project with applications closing on Wednesday, 10 August 2011.
