School’s rise to Fame

STUDENTS at Lyndhurst Secondary College have been busy preparing to take to the stage for two different upcoming performances.
The school has set itself a challenge, entering in the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge, and is also producing a musical production of Fame.
They are now calling on community support to help raise funds for costumes and set design. This Saturday, the school will hold a barbecue at Bunnings Cranbourne, with all funds raised to go towards funding the two performances.
Production and Rock Eisteddfod co-ordinator Catherine Blackburn encouraged the community to come down for the sausage sizzle and support their venture.
“This is our big fundraiser for the performances,” she said.
“We are hoping to raise $1200.
“The kids have been working really hard, so it would be good to see some community support.”
About 80 students are involved with the performances, with many senior students involved with both the production and Rock Eisteddfod.
Ms Blackburn said they had been able to provide many leadership opportunities for the students.
“For the first time we have performing arts leaders, who have become the face of these events,” she said.
“These students were selected due to their dedication and commitment to the performing arts at Lyndhurst Secondary College.
“We have two senior boys choreographing the majority of our Rock Eisteddfod entry, which also has seen many boys involved. This is a wonderful opportunity for these students to demonstrate their amazing talent.”
Ms Blackburn said the students had worked hard on both performances.
“We have recently had our Production Camp, which saw the entire cast of both events spend two days rehearsing,” she said.
“It was a great time for the cast to get to know each other, and also the staff involved. “Many of the students with lead roles in Fame have contributed ideas to the show and some have helped direct and choreograph scenes.”
The Rock Eisteddfod heat will be held on Friday 12 August and the production will be performed at the Cranbourne Community Theatre in early September.
