Kids spellbound

CASEY primary school students are being encouraged to test their spelling skills in an upcoming competion.
The City of Casey zone final for the Gippspell Spelling Bee will be held at Kilberry Valley Primary School next month.
The competition is open to all students in Years 5, 6, 7 and 8, from both public and independent schools from Casey through to East Gippsland.
Last year, more than 150 people attended the Casey zone final, with 52 students representing 13 schools from across the municipality.
Students compete against students from their own year level and have to orally spell words to advance to the next round.
The winners from each year level of the zone final then advance to the provincial final held in Traralgon, where they will compete against all the other zone finalists.
Entry is $20 per school, with schools able to enter two students per year level.
This is the second year that Kilberry Valley Primary School is hosting the zone final, which is to be held on Tuesday 9 August, from 7pm.
For more information or to book your place, contact Toni Arfaras at Kilberry Valley Primary School on 9702 8688.
