Battle lines drawn between bands

YOUNG people in Casey are being encouraged to show their support for local musicians.
The City of Casey and Spectrum Entertainment are set to host the first heat of the 2011 Pushstart Battle of the Bands competition next month.
The Battle of the Bands offers local emerging bands the opportunity to display their talents and compete against other local bands.
City of Casey mayor Shar Balmes urged local young people to go along and support the event.
“The Battle of the Bands competition is not only a wonderful showcase of local talent, it’s a great event organised by young people, for young people,” she said.
Winners of the final will receive a recording/rehearsal package courtesy of Pony Music and go on to represent the City of Casey in the Southern Metropolitan Regional Final.
The competition will be run over two heats and a final, with tickets available at the door for $12 or $10 with a pass, which is available from City of Casey Youth Information Centres – Hampton Park Youth Information Centre and Cranbourne Youth Information Centre.
Heat one will be held on Friday 1 July from 6 to 11pm at Cranbourne Public Hall, corner Clarendon and High Streets, Cranbourne.
Heat two will be held at Narre Community Learning Centre, 1 Malcolm Court, Narre Warren on Friday 8 July from 6 to 11pm.
The final is on Friday 22 July, from 6 to 11pm, also at the Cranbourne Public Hall.
The events are fully supervised, drug, alcohol and smoke-free.
