EXCITEMENT is building at Aveo Botanic Gardens retirement village in Junction Village with the extension of the men’s shed well underway.
Construction has now started and new members are being sought to use the men’s workshop when it is completed by the end of next month.
Project manager Les Smith said the men’s shed would be available to all people in the community, not only those within the retirement village.
“The key focus of the men’s shed will be to promote and support the health and wellbeing of men,” he said.
“There will be an array of workshops on offer for both men and women who would like to gain or improve on basic wood working skills.
“The aim will be to give them a chance to join in and develop friendships with others that share a common goal or interest.
“When it opens we want lots of people ready to use it.”
The initiative has been funded with grant assistance from the state government, Victorian Department of Human Services, Aveo Live Well, Bendigo Community Bank Pearcedale, Bunnings Cranbourne, Dulux and retirement village residents.
Mr Smith said the project had also received great support from Fredman-Malina Architects and Technical Associates, Demain Building Services, City of Casey and Cranbourne RSL.
Cranbourne MP Jude Perera said it was a great pleasure to secure the funding under the previous Labor Government for the construction of the men’s shed.
“I congratulate Les Smith and his team on a fine effort in getting the men’s shed where it is at today,” he said.
“I wish Les and his team all the very best with their future endeavours.”
