Unlimited creativity unpacked

By Kog Ravindran
MEMBERS of the Cranbourne Arts and Crafts Society were told there were “no limits” to their creativity, as they produced pieces for Imagine, their new exibition at the Cranbourne Library.
The result is a diverse range of works, which include sculptures, mosaic pieces and dichroic jewellery.
The showcase of local talent was opened last Thursday and was attended by the group’s patron, Casey councillor Amanda Stapledon.
Described by president Peter Fleming as the group’s “guardian angel”, Cr Stapledon was honoured at the opening night of the exhibition, with the introduction of the innaugural Amanda Stapledon Patrons Encouragement Award.
“They are a terrific group of people and we want to try and meet the needs of everyone in the community,” Cr Stapledon said.
This year’s winner, Mickey Pearce, has several works on display.
Mr Fleming said the group provides an alternative for people in the area.
“At the moment, Cranbourne is a very sports-orientated town, and we want to make people more aware of the arts,” he said.
While the group currently meets every Monday at the Cranbourne Community House, Mr Fleming hopes they will have a home to call their own in the next five years.
Brenda Pettitt, who is both the group’s secretary and a contributing artist, believes the organisation provides a great outlet for it’s 40 members.
“Art is a tool for wellness that helps with mental and physical health,” she said.
Locals attending the exhibit will have a chance to vote for their favourite work in the people’s choice awards.
The exhibit will be running until June 30.
