CRANBOURNE Secondary College student Emily Delphine has designed a flag that now flies proudly on its mast at the school.
The Year 12 student designed the flag as part of a competition run by the college in which the students only had one period to throw everything together.
Emily said the prize, an opportunity to work with a high profile graphic artist Carolyn Simm from SIMM Design Studio, was what spurred her on to work hard on her design.
“I am proud that my design was picked – it felt pretty good and I thought it was awesome,” she said.
“It was really interesting to see how (the graphic artists) worked as a team because there were three of them.
“It was fairly laid back, which was a very good thing, it seemed like a good environment to work in.
“Going off with the graphic designers motivated me to work harder with my art subjects, so I could one day work in a company like that.”
Student wellbeing co-ordinator Jan McAleese said it was no surprise that her design was chosen.
Emily said she hoped to be an interior designer after she finishes high school and added that the experience has given her a great insight into the industry.
“Emily was a student of mine in the past and I’ve always found that she’s been able to adapt and adjust to any problem solving tasks that she’s given,” Ms McAleese said.
“When we put forward the design brief it was no surprise to me that Emily came up with such an effective design that answered what the school wanted in terms of a design for the school flag.
“She’s very creative and she’s a good student.”

“Going off with the graphic designers was a really good thing for me – it’s sort of along the same lines,” she said.
“It’s good to see the processes they take to complete their final designs. They showed me their work, which was really amazing.”
