Art awards up for grabs

CASEY council is encouraging people to nominate local residents who have made a significant contribution to the arts for the Lindsay King Arts Initiative Award.
The recognition is Casey’s most prestigious award for the arts, which recognise people who have made a valuable contribution to both performing and visual arts in the area.
Established in 2007, the award is named in memory of Cranbourne resident Lindsay King, whose vigorous commitment to the arts and passion for local history, tourism and culture made a positive and enduring impact on the arts community in Casey.
City of Casey mayor Shar Balmes is encouraging residents to nominate someone who contributes to the arts in Casey.
“I encourage students to nominate their art teacher, artists to nominate their peers and drama clubs to nominate those ‘behind the scenes’ people that normally wouldn’t receive public recognition,” she said.
“There are so many talented people in Casey making a huge contribution to the arts and they are all eligible to be nominated for this prestigious award.”
This year, this honour will be awarded in the two categories. Visual arts includes all types of visual arts and making including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, crafts, textiles, film and digital media.
The performing arts category includes all types of performing and literary arts including acting, singing, screenplays, writing, poetry, dancing, music, stage support and sound.
Nominations close on 27 June.
For more information or to obtain nomination forms, contact City of Casey Customer Service on 9705 5200 or visit www.casey.vic.gov.au/arts.
