All set for business park

By Danielle Galvin
PLANS to develop a business park at Cranbourne West are set to go ahead with property developer MAB Corporation buying an interest in the landholding of the Cranbourne Equine Hospital.
MAB Corporation has bought an interest in the 21.8 hectare plot, signalling a partnership with the owners of the equine facility.
The land is part of the 780-hectare Cranbourne West growth area, which is bordered by the Western Port Highway, Thompsons Road, Evans Road, Hall Road, Ballarto Road Reserve and Cranbourne-Frankston Road.
It has been designated by the Growth Areas Authority, and was earmarked by the previous State Government for business and residential development.
Debra Jeffrey from the Cranbourne Equine Facility confirmed they had entered into a partnership agreement with MAB Corporation.
She said the equine hospital would continue to run as normal and the interest would not affect the equine facilities.
“The equine facility will be operational for years to come,” she said.
The Cranbourne Equine Hospital has been running for 27 years, and provides care to racehorses, pet horses and ponies.
Nick Schofield from MAB Corporation confirmed reports that the property developer would build a business precinct on the 21.8 hectare property. Mr Schofield could not confirm when construction would begin.
“MAB Corporation has built a number of business parks in the past, and we intend to create a business park to provide more jobs in the area. Only about 30 per cent of Cranbourne residents work in the area,” Mr Schofield said.
Casey mayor Shar Balmes welcomed the development of the unused land in Cranbourne West.
“The council’s objective in Cranbourne West is to provide a point of difference in the south east of Melbourne, where jobs and homes are planned together to create positive and sustainable community outcomes,” Cr Balmes said.
The Age on 28 May reported that the site was bought by MAB Corporation for around $9 million.
In 2010, council released a report outlining the vision for the development of Cranbourne West.
Cr Balmes said the forecast population growth in Cranbourne West was another reason why the council welcomes large developments.
