STUDENTS at Cranbourne Secondary College have been busy dancing, singing and acting this week for the premier of their musical Guys and Dolls.
More than 50 students areinvolved in the musical production including the lead acting cast, a VET dance group and hip-hop group Kick Back Kids.
The students have been rehearsing twice a week since the start of the year as well as on school holidays and weekends.
Guys and Dolls, set in New York in the ’40s, is based on the story of two couples – Nathan Detroit and Miss Adelaide and Sky Masterson and Sarah Brown.
Nathan is trying to find a location for his floating crap game, Miss Adelaide, the showgirl, is seeking to leave behind her seemingly glamorous lifestyle for a white picket fence and Sky, the highest roller of them all, would bet on anything that would turn him a profit.
Sarah is part of the Save a Soul Mission, and aims to spread the word and make a difference to the sin and depravity of the streets, full of tipsters, gamblers and con men.
Teacher Susan Bergman is the producer/director, Dan Nobelius the musical director and Year 12 students Kaleisha Prouse, the choreographer and Joel Shaw, the lighting designer and stage manager.
Ms Bergman said she was proud of all the students involved.
“Overall, the students have got a lot out of it,” she said.
“They are very lucky to have so many teachers supporting them and giving up their time to help.
“We are also pleased that theschool supports as it costs huge amounts of money. I think it’s greatthat the school values the performing arts.”
The students have been performing shows since Monday and will continue until Friday.
People can go along tonight to the Cranbourne Community Theatre. Limited tickets may be available at $12 each.
