Churches unite for Easter march

By Bridget Cook
LOCAL church groups will unite tomorrow for the 14th annual Good Friday Easter March through the streets of Cranbourne.
The churches, that are part of the Cranbourne Christian Ministers Association, will step out together on 22 April and unite in a collective celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
With Easter falling so closely to Anzac Day this year, the march will be a little different than usual.
Two local ministers, Reverend Wendy Snook from Uniting Church Cranbourne and pastor Frank Clancy from Assembly of God, will lead the Easter march as both of them have served in the armed forces.
Turning Point Family Church senior pastor and chairperson of the Cranbourne Christian Ministers Association, Phillip Cayzer, said this would be done to show respect to those who had given their lives for the country.
Mr Cayzer said that each year they had a different theme for the march.
“Our main focus this year is on suffering – the suffering of Jesus and how He identifies with the suffering,” he said.
“All the local churches will get together to celebrate a common thing, what Good Friday really means.”
The Easter March will run from 11am to about noon.
It will start at Lamb Street, Cranbourne, then march to Greg Clydesdale Square and then to Ray Perry Park, where the march will end.
At each location, local churches will present songs, drama and bible readings.
At the final station, there will be puppets for the children, free hot cross buns, and tea and coffee for everyone.
Mr Cayzer encouraged everyone to come along and join in the march.
