Chipping in to help

ELEVEN volunteers will be travelling to Tonga to rebuild the much needed multipurpose community hall at an agricultural college on the island of Eua.
Six volunteers are Cranbourne Rotary Club members and five are from the Casey Christian Reformed Church. Two will be leaving late May to prepare and the rest aim to be there by June 1.
About $50,000 worth of goods have been donated towards the cause, which will all be placed in a shipping container to be sent over to Tonga.
Cranbourne Rotary Club president Andrew Pinxt said various businesses and schools donated a range of tools, equipment and supplies, which would be vital in the rebuilding process.
“When we were there last time, I promised the principal there that we were going to put a new roof on his community hall,” Mr Pinxt said. “With the donations we can do the whole lot – the roof, ceiling, walls, insulation and also the lighting.”
The Rotary has had a long relationship with Hango Agricultural College and has been involved with many projects to improve the facilities.
In 2009 a small group went to upgrade the boys’ and girls’ dormitories, installed a verandah, upgraded the milking machine plant and replaced timber where needed.
Mr Pinxt expects this project to be completed within two weeks.
