Elaine Verity’s Fairfield Road unit received extensive smoke damage throughout and the kitchen was completely destroyed by the blaze last Tuesday morning about 5.30am.
The News reported on her story last week, and how her life was saved by a working smoke alarm which woke her up and gave her time to get out of the unit, which she had lived in for 11 years.
Ms Verity, who is on a disability pension, said she was not insured and was seeking help from the community to help get back on her feet.
Since the story ran, Ms Verity, 56, said she had received many calls from local residents offering her goods like crockery, which she lost in the blaze.
She said The Good Guys in Cranbourne had been a huge help in assisting her to obtain new kitchen items.
“They gave me a microwave for $68, which was worth $168,” she said.
“They have given me between 25 per cent and 50 per cent discount in items like a kettle, frypan, toaster, food processor and blender.
“They have even given items including a coffee grinder and meat scales free of charge.”
Ms Verity said she would like to thank all those who had supported her.
“The Good Guys have been great,” she said. “Nothing has been too hard for them.
“I would like to say a huge thankyou to all others that have helped.
“Everyone deserves a special thankyou.”
She said the Cranbourne CFA also deserved to be congratulated and thanked for turning up so quickly, and stopping the fire from spreading throughout the unit.
Ms Verity is set to move back into her unit on Friday this week.
