Kids enjoy a big day out

A GROUP of local youths enjoyed a day out at the Melbourne Aquarium last month thanks to a donation from sponsor Alarah.
Alarah, an estate in Cranbourne West, donated 50 tickets so that 25 pairs of mentors and youths from Hallam’s ‘Big Brothers Big Sisters’ organisation could head to the aquarium.
The organisation provides mentoring services for young people within the City of Casey.
Jaguar,12, who attended the excursion, said this was her first time to the Melbourne Aquarium.
“My favourite animals were the baby penguins, they are so cute and I got to see them swimming,” she said.
“I like these excursions because you get to do cool and exciting things you wouldn’t normally get to do.”
Jaguar’s mentor Kaye said, the Big Brothers Big Sisters program was a great initiative for young people to spend time with adults who could provide guidance and support in an influential environment.
“I get so much pleasure out of seeing a young person develop and grow….it’s the best feeling you can have,” she said.
As part of Alarah’s continuing sponsorship, local pairs will be treated to various activity days throughout the year in an effort to stimulate stable and positive relationships for these vulnerable young people.
Wolfdene managing director Michael Goldthorp said Alarah’s sponsorship would allow local at-risk young people to attend a variety of engaging activities throughout the year.
“The Big Brothers Big Sisters organisation is an important local initiative linking youths with important influences through mentorship, and Alarah is only too proud to support this worthy cause,” he said.
