LYNDHURST community Marriott Waters lent a helping hand to the fundraising efforts of the Casey Walkie Talkies for the Relay for Life event.
For the fourth year running, Marriott Waters donated $5000 to the local group for the Cancer Council event, which goes towards cancer research.
Headed by former Casey councillor Janet Halsall, the Casey Walkie Talkies are made up of about 80 local community members, including City of Casey mayor Shar Balmes and councillors Amanda Stapledon and Bob Halsall.
The 24-hour Relay for Life took place from 6pm Friday 4 March to 6pm Saturday 5 March at Berwick’s Akoonah Park, where the local Walkie Talkies hit the track to raise an impressive $14,000 towards the cause.
Collectively, the Casey Relay for Life event raised more than $200,000 towards vital cancer research and patient support programs.
Marriott Waters has been a strong supporter of the local community team since 2008, donating a total of $20,000 towards the annual event.
Cr Halsall said Marriott Waters’ yearly support was appreciated.
“As always, we are extremely grateful for the wonderful support Villawood has provided for our team and towards this community endeavour,” he said.
Villawood Properties executive director Tony Johnson said the developer was only too happy to donate towards such a worthy initiative.
“Villawood Properties is proud to be involved in such an important local event,” he said.
“The Casey Walkie Talkies should be extremely proud of their efforts and we are honoured to support them as they continue their journey to fight cancer.
“The Relay For Life is a fantastic way to band together as a community to raise money for an important cause.”
