The right moves

A CASEY Radio presenter has been selected to represent the country in the Asian Continental Chess Championships.
Cranbourne North resident Jamie Kenmure was chosen as a representative by the Australian Chess Federation for the competition in Mashhad Iran, which is a qualifying tournament for the World Cup of chess.
The top four players of the tournament will go through to the World Cup competition.
Jamie said he was stoked to be chosen.
“It’s a great opportunity to see a fantastic country and play chess against some of the world’s best,” he said.
Jamie has played chess for about nine years after he was introduced to it while he was a student at Dandenong High School.
He has travelled around Australia competing in a number of tournaments and has beaten some strong players.
In September last year, he jetted off to Russia for the Chess Olympiad where he captained the small pacific nation Palau’s team.
Jamie said he enjoyed chess for a number of reasons.
“It gives you a great mental workout,” he said. “I also really enjoy meeting new people and travelling for the tournaments, which is another passion of mine.”
Jamie is seeking sponsorship to assist in the costs for the tournament.
