RSL opens up for visitors

By Bridget Cook
LOCAL residents will have the opportunity to explore the Cranbourne RSL sub-branch this month.
For the second year running, the RSL is inviting the public to be their VIP guests on Saturday 26 March for the Cranbourne Sub-Branch Open Day.
The day is a great opportunity for the community to learn about the sub-branch’s facilities, services, and people, as well as enjoy entertainment and competitions.
There will be decades of history and memorabilia to view and veteran story-telling throughout the day.
There will also be an opportunity to learn more about the rewarding RSL Volunteer program, from selling Anzac badges for the upcoming Anzac Appeal, home and hospital visits, to driving and transport.
State President Major General David McLachlan said the RSL Sub-Branch Open Days were a perfect occasion to showcase the facilities, services and the abundance of history on offer.
“For many, the local RSL sub-branch, may be seen as just the local watering hole or social space purely for veterans of war,” he said.
“What people may not realise is that your local RSL sub branch is a mecca for history, modern facilities and a place for people to visit and enjoy.
“You never know, by stepping into the sub-branch, you may be enticed to become part of that unique family and become a member or a volunteer.
“We have a range of membership options which not only focus on the defence force, but also embrace community members with a family connection to someone who served, as well as those who simply wish to enjoy the facilities become a volunteer.”
The day will run from noon to 4pm on 26 March at Cranbourne RSL sub-branch, South Gippsland Highway, Cranbourne.
