MORE than 100 golfers teed off for a good cause last week.
The second annual Browns Sawdust and Shavings charity golf day was held at Settlers Run golf course in Cranbourne on 21 January.
The day was hailed as a great success, with money raised from the charity event to be distributed between the EJ Whitten Foundation and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
A fundraising event at tri-codes race day in Cranbourne on 27 March will also contribute to the cause.
Browns Sawdust and Shavings managing director Scott Brown was motivated to organise the golf day after he was touched by cancer.
His father died of throat cancer and Mr Brown had a scare himself last year.
“I couldn’t talk this time last year. I got the all-clear in the end but it was a bit of a shock at my age at least,” he said.
Mr Brown said he had been “blown away” by the support of businesses and others who had thrown their support behind the event.
Ted Whitten Jnr was a special guest at the golf day, along with former AFL umpires.
