THE protection of the Tooradin foreshore has been given a boost.
Erosion at the foreshore has been a worry for locals and the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) has agreed to carry out works to address their growing concerns.
A wall providing extra support will be built from the boat ramp to near the fish cleaning tables to address the issues of erosion.
The DSE will work with the Tooradin Foreshore Committee of Management to determine what material will be used. It is planned to have the building completed by the end of the year.
Committee of management secretary Ross Wilkie said the major problem for residents was the diminished access to the boat ramp and jetty.
Mr Wilkie said he was pleased something would be done about the erosion, and said the persistence and hard work from the committee had paid off.
Mr Wilkie has been on the committee of management for 15 years, and has called for more volunteers to join.
“We need people with good ideas who want to be involved and are interested in improving the community amenity,” he said.
DSE property officer Will Hoban said the dedication of a committee was vital to the management of foreshores.
“The beauty of Tooradin’s foreshore is highly valued by both the local and holiday-making community,” Mr Hoban said.
Those interested in joining the Tooradin Foreshore Committee of Management can contact Will Hoban on 9296 4556 for a nomination form. Expressions of interest close on 14 February.
